Back issues and disclaimer

We like to reactivate this outdated blog for a new start in 2019. Let's meet in a no-obligation and relaxed atmosphere, and find our flow, motivate each other and give ourselves a little push forward for a learning process, a book, a song, a thesis, a dissertation, or just for fun. ;-) Please leave a message if you like to take part.

Hi folks,

Humphrey took the reins of his own blog again. Further meetings will be announced in the old link where he still runs the blog as administrator:

"English Speaking Club". (You'll be forwarded by clicking on the link).

Of course you can still linger on this blog to try out the links: you're welcome to play some games, listen to the radio-stations, look for software-downloads (I hope they are still free of charge) or get informed about the weather.

Certainly you can also reach me by leaving a comment.
I'm not out of town. *giggle*

Eurovision Song Contest

Dear friends,

I haven't seen you for ages! It's about time, don't you agree? The upcoming event is a perfect opportunity to meet all of you again.

On Saturday, 26. May 2012, at 8:00 p.m. there's a party with
public broadcasting at the Paulaner (<-- click for location plan).

Watching the Eurovision Song Contest with many people is more fun.
If you send me a short response I can even try to make a reservation for a table...

Feel free to bring along your friends or colleagues.

Warm regards,

Yours Miss B. Haviour

PS: It would be great if also Humphrey could find the time between his plans to move from Göttingen. ;-)

Summertime! ;-)

Hi folks,
 Summer season is near.

We're adjusting our clocks for Daylight Saving Time.
Do not forget to set the time one hour forward at 2 a.m.
- The bad thing is, that one hour is lost.
The good thing is, that it's getting warmer... ;-)

Yours
Miss B. Haviour

Happy Birthday ESC!

Ladies and Germans! ;-)

It was exactly 2 yeas ago when the English Speaking Club met for the fist time.

Big time congrats for the anniversary!!!
(Click on the link above. To read the white coloured text please highlight it.)

In the blog of the "English Speaking Club" unfortunately there were no plans for a gathering today but we hope we can continue with the momentum and commitment that supported our coming together if warmer weather comes along.

English Speaking Club

Dear friends of the English language,

Last Friday we (Miss A. and the two scientists, who will hopefully become new members!) had loads of fun with the singing doctors. I'm afraid I yelled myself hoarse because of singing and clapping along. During the whole weekend I could hardly speak, but my voice came back now. I hope the others didn't have the same fate... :-)

Hope to see you there!

So-long 2011!

Happy New Year

On New Years Eve we have to leave

Another year behind.
We wonder what the future holds,
What changes we will find.
When the bells ring out at midnight
And a new path is there to tread,
Go forward with hope in your heart
And welcome the New Year ahead.
I wish for you so many things.
God's blessings from Heaven above,
To make this the happiest year,
Filled with joy and peace and love.

 (by Marian Jones)

Dear Community,
Our last meeting at the X-mas-market was rather funny. :-)
We even could float some ideas. Further suggestions are welcome!
After the winter break I hope that we'll have more gatherings.
Thanks so much for sharing those happy moments throughout 2011.
Wishing you a lovely New Year's Eve with you and yours,
hope your year gets off to a great start in 2012.

Christmas market

Hi there,

How are you? I hope you enjoy the pre-holiday season!

We decided to have a short break from the break. ;-)

I hope you won't read this message too late: I'm sorry that the weatherman rained on our parade as he told something about squall lines

Because of stormy weather we had to postpone the meeting!!!

As I could see, the weather conditions shall be much better next week. :-) On Thursday, 22nd December, at 7 p.m. we will wait for you at the "Gänseliesel" 30 minutes at the very most before we start to stroll around the Christmas market for one or two cups of "hot or mulled wine" (Glühwein). If you like we also can go to a pub nearby afterwards...

It would be nice if you can find the time for a last meeting in 2011 to plan upcoming events and to spend a nice evening

See you, then!

Yours Miss B. Haviour

Saturday evening at the Cartoon

Hello friends of the English language,

Are you frozen? Well, it's quite normal in November. :-) I've heard that a few number of our members still like to meet next weekend. But no-one recommended any other plan or location. So I suggest to meet at the

Cartoon (Albaniplatz) on Saturday, 19th November at about 7.00 p.m.
(For the address please click on the link)
Beside a wide range of drinks they also offer favourable meals. I hope to see you there.

During winter season we won't meet every week. I think our regulars' table should be only held on special request. I'll publish it in this blog and inform all participants after you've left your suggestions (with time and date) by a comment down here or by e-mail (e.g. a special event or a walking-tour through the winter wonderland etc.) I'd really appreciate it if you could play an active role in the community as well.

With deepest regards,

Yours Miss B. Haviour

Breakfast: 2 options

Hi there,

for next Saturday, 12th November, I suggest to have breakfast together again. Please chose one of the following locations:

1. P-Café, Nikolaikirchhof 11: we have to be there at 10.00 a.m. (Quite early, I think. But it was necessary to prearrange the table - I booked one for temporarily 6 people.)

2. Einstein, Kurze Geismarstrasse 9: starting at about 11.00 a.m. - Not booked yet! (We've been there once in July and it was value for money.)

This poll is required to ascertain the number of people. I will fix the reservation afterwards. (The code will be "English Speaking Club"). So if you like to take part, please leave a comment in this blog or send me an e-mail at the latest by Wednesday!

By the way, the party was great! Thanks to H. ;-)

Yours Miss B. Haviour

Amendment (09.11.2011):

Thanks for your few responses by e-mail. Unfortunately I had to cancel the reservation.
You're obviously very busy at the weekend.

I'm not really peeved, but your comments in the blog are yawn-inspiring. *lol*
A rather euphemistic way of rejecting a meeting is to abstain.  :-(

What's up? Shall we make a break due to coming winter season? What do you think about fortnightly gatherings? Please let me know if you should have a back up plan...

I look forward to hearing from you,

Yours Miss B. Haviour

Happy Halloween!

Dear community,

There will be no official gathering for this week. - Sorry, but for the
coming weekend we have an invitation to a private party (Saturday, 5th November)!
I will
forward the detailed information to the core group of the "English Speaking Club" personally by e-mail asap.

To those who attended the meeting at "Al Capone" last Friday: Thank you for the tremendous evening. The calzone or pizza was really luscious - except the coffee, as it seemed. *giggle*
It was just like sharing dinner with Italian family members and we also had a special guest from Florida. Because of the international touch our sparkling conversation (in the background of a Russian TV-show)  turned into a mixture of Italian, Japanese, French, German and of course also English - . ;-)

Keep in touch,

Yours Miss B. Haviour
